HORSEBACK RIDES AT SHENANDOAH RIDING CENTER

Trail rides, lessons and riding camps are available just a short drive from Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa at the Shenandoah Riding Center.  With 40-miles of groomed horseback riding trails, Shenandoah offers something for all experience levels, from beginner to advanced.  Open year round, horseback riding is a great way to discover all four seasons at The Galena Territory.

Trail Options

Shenandoah Trail - $40 per person; suggested riding level: beginner
Departure Times:  9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The most popular ride is the Shenandoah Trail, a relaxing 45-minute to one-hour trail ride through the wooded hills and valleys.  Before departing a knowledgeable guide will meet with everyone to go over specific riding instructions so that the experience is worry free. There is a minimum age of 8 years old and all riders must be at least 4 feet tall and 65 lbs.

Territory Trail - $75 per person; suggested riding level: intermediate
Departure Times:  11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The Territory Trail is for people who have done a little riding and feel confident enough to ride for approximately two hours.  This ride takes place at a walk and jog pace, with an opportunity to trot at the guide's discretion.  You will ride through the rugged hills, deep ravines and panoramic ridge tops of The Galena Territory.  There is a minimum age of 10 years old and all riders must be 4 feet tall and 65 lbs.

Canter Ride - $90 per person; suggested riding level: advanced
Departure Times:  9 a.m.

The Canter Ride is suitable for the more advanced rider, participants should come prepared with proper riding attire, such as riding boots. The Canter Ride is for people who have done quite a bit of riding and feel confident enough to ride for approximately two hours over challenging terrain.  This ride takes the pace of a walk, jog, trot and gives an opportunity to canter at the guide's discretion.  There is a minimum age of 8 years old and all riders must be at least 4 feet tall and 65 lbs.

Beginner Riding Lesson - $25 per person
Departure Times:  By reservation

Designed for riders of any age who have never ridden a horse, this beginner riding lesson is required before riding out on the Shenandoah Trail Ride.  The Beginner Riding Lesson will ensure that riders are confident and competent enough to be safe and comfortable out on the ride.  Riders learn how to control their horse, get to know the horse they will ride, and learn the basic riding skills they need out on the trail ride.  They will also get to practice the skills before the ride.  This riding lesson can be done the half hour before the ride or the day before.  It is approximately 20 minutes long and reservations are required.

First Time Ride - $15 per person; suggested riding level: beginner
Departure Times:  By reservation

This is a chance for first time riders to be guided on a horse while a parent or guardian walks along side.  This introduction to horseback riding is available for children of any age.
