LOCATION

Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa is located in the 6,800-acre Galena Territory in northwest Illinois.

BACKGROUND

Land acquisition for what is now Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa began in 1970. Ground was broken for the first Information Center/Real Estate office on April 1, 1973, at what is now the site of The General Clubhouse. The Shenandoah Riding Center was built in January 1974.

Construction of Lake Galena began in the spring of 1974. The lake is 220 surface acres, with an average depth of 25 feet and a maximum depth of 55 feet. It was expected to take 18 months to fill the lake, but it took just seven weeks because of the unusual heavy snow during the winter of 1974-75. The Marina Club was built in the spring/summer of 1975 and was ready to use in spring of 1976.

Golf first became part of the Eagle Ridge story with the construction of the North Course. Original clearing began in October 1975. The course, designed by Roger Packard, was completed by the fall of 1976 and opened for play July 4, 1977. Construction of the South Course began in the fall of 1982, with the grand opening August 4, 1984. Construction of the East Course began in the fall of 1989 and the grand opening took place July 1, 1991. Construction of The General began in late spring of 1994, with the grand opening on Memorial Day weekend in 1997. Construction began October 19, 1977, on the Eagle Ridge Inn and was completed in June of 1981.

The original Inn consisted of 31 rooms, with an additional 36 rooms being added several years later.  On January 8, 1992, a fire destroyed the main lodge and small conference center. Starting in the spring of 1992, construction began on a new main lodge and conference center, enlarging the original floor plan by 20,000 square feet and adding 13 rooms - bringing the resort's total hotel rooms to 80. The main lodge was completed in late August 1992, with the overall completion of the conference center in the late fall. The first event in the Grand Ballroom was held exactly one year from the fire.
