GALENA TRIATHLON & DUATHLON

Sponsored by the Galena Visitors and Convention Center, this 18th annual event is fun for participants and spectators alike. Enter the challenge or support the athletes to victory!
Ranked by USAT as one of the top ten sprint distance triathlons in the United States, this challenging multi-sport event offers unique terrain and beautiful scenery starting with a swim in the clear, cool waters of Apple Canyon Lake with a beach start and finish. The swim-to-bike transition is adjacent to the beach. Duathletes begin with a 2-mile run.
The second leg of the race is a breathtakingly beautiful 17.3-mile bike on the hilly and winding country roads of Jo Daviess County. The final leg is a 4.3-mile run, which winds up and down the picturesque lanes and roadways. The finish line is located at Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa's Special Event Field, the site of the post-race party.
2013 GREAT GALENA BALLOON RACE

More than 20 hot air balloons from across the United Stated will festoon the skies over The Galena Territory and Northwest Illinois during the 12th annual Great Galena Balloon Race. Hot air balloon pilots from around the country return year-after-year to Eagle Ridge in support of this all important fundraising event to benefit Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
Friday night’s activities feature, AleFest, under the big tent on Friday night from 6:30-9:00 pm. AleFest features over 100 the finest craft beer styles. Ticket cost is $20.00. Each admission is good for samples of craft beer, a tasting glass and guide, and live entertainment.
This year on Saturday night, the Great Galena Balloon Race welcomes Wine Flight Night (a wine tasting event for the wine aficionados. This will be in addition to the annual Collectors Car Show, featuring over 40 collector cars perfectly restored and open to the public.
Both nights feature live music, food, and bounce house activities for the children along the amazing balloon glow. During the night glow events balloons light up the night skies of the Galena Territory.
All events for the Great Galena Balloon Race take place on the North Course Driving Range.
FIRECRACKER 5K
July 6
The Eagle Ridge Recreation Department would like invite you to participate in Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa’s 28th Annual Firecracker 5k Run/Walk. The course consists of a 5k loop on paved trails through the rolling hills of the scenic Galena Territories.
The race will be held Saturday, July 6th, 2013. Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. in the Galena Lobby with the race beginning at 9:00 a.m. Register by July 1st and for $25.00 you will receive entry into the race, a T-shirt and a post-race croissant sandwich breakfast. Registration after the July 1st deadline is still only $25.00 but does not guarantee a T-shirt. Extra breakfast tickets will be available for $10 while supplies last.
The race is divided into male and female age groups: 19 &under, 20-34, 35-49 and 50 & up. Awards will go to the first place male and female overall and top two runners from each age group. Door prizes will be raffled off during the breakfast after the race. Once again this year we are having a free Sparkler Sprint for children 8 years of age and younger, to be held at 8:45 a.m.
